National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving comes off July 1

Prof Music Production (PMP) will be providing sound services to Harmonious Chorale Ghana as the renowned choir ministers during the Christian service of Ghana’s upcoming National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

Scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, the newly declared national observance will be held under the theme, “Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity.” The day will feature two interfaith services to unite citizens in prayer and gratitude.

The Christian service will begin at 8:00am at the forecourt of the State House. It will be led by His Eminence Peter Cardinal Kodwo Appiah Turkson, Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Social Sciences. Harmonious Chorale Ghana is expected to offer musical ministration at this service, with PMP providing sound production support specifically for their performance.

Later that day, the Muslim service will take place at 12:30pm at the National Mosque in Kanda. It will be led by the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving coincides with Republic Day, which has now been reinstated as a statutory public holiday. This follows the passage of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill, 2025 by Parliament on Wednesday, June 25. In accordance with a government policy to shift midweek holidays to either Monday or Friday, July 4 has been declared a holiday for its official commemoration.

President John Dramani Mahama had earlier announced the initiative during his Thank You tour in the Western Region on February 5. He said the day would give Ghanaians an opportunity to reflect on the country’s journey and express gratitude. “We will have the opportunity as a nation soon to pray and give thanks to the Almighty God, as enjoined by the Holy Book that says, ‘In all things, give thanks,’” he remarked.

The initiative has gained bipartisan support. Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has encouraged Ghanaians to embrace the idea, describing it as “a worthwhile initiative that we have this one day where all of us come together to give thanks to the Almighty for the many, many blessings He has bestowed upon us.”

To ensure smooth coordination, President Mahama has established a committee of religious leaders to oversee preparations.
